McDonald’s Gears Up for 50th with Tasty Burger Makeover

McDonald’s is celebrating its 50th anniversary in the UK by shaking up some of its most iconic burgers. Fans of the Big Mac, Quarter Pounder with Cheese, and cheeseburgers (double and triple too) can expect juicier, tastier treats hitting the menu soon.

Flavor Boosts Fans Will Love

The fast-food giant is tweaking its classic beef burgers with a range of subtle but powerful upgrades. Tested and loved down under in Australia and across the US, the changes are now rolling out in the UK and Ireland.

  • Sear That Sizzles: Beef patties will get a tighter sear for a hotter, juicier burger packed with flavour.
  • Onion Upgrade: White onions cook right on top of the patties, adding a smoky edge and golden colour.
  • Fresh Crunch: Lettuce comes straight from the fridge for maximum snap and freshness.
  • Cheese & Bun Boost: Cheese melts better than ever, while a new buttery brioche-style bun is toasted fresh to order for that soft, pillowy bite.

Behind the Scenes: Staff Training & Tech

Gareth Pearson, McDonald’s UK & Ireland Chief Restaurant Officer, said: “As we celebrate 50 years in the UK, we’re thrilled to introduce our enhanced classic beef burgers. We found that a collection of small improvements makes a massive difference to flavour.”

He added, “We haven’t just improved the food. We’ve rolled out new kitchen technology and retrained all 177,000 crew members to deliver the best burgers ever.”
