Malmö bans bags at Eurovision venues amid tight security clampdown
Strict Security to Shield Europe’s Biggest Music Bash
Malmö is pulling out all the stops as it prepares to host the Eurovision Song Contest, the globe’s biggest music showdown. City officials have unveiled a tough new rule: no bags allowed at the main event venues. This comes as Malmö braces to welcome thousands of visitors for the week-long spectacle.
Bag Ban in Place From May 4 to May 12
Per-Erik Ebbeståhl, Malmö’s Director of Sustainability and Security, spilled the details at a press briefing. “While we can’t reveal all our security cards, guests will see both visible and undercover measures. One clear move is the bag ban across all event sites,” he said. The rules will apply specifically at Malmö 1 and Folkets Park, with controlled entry points and thorough security checks.
Global Tensions Spark Heightened Security
The Eurovision spotlight on Malmö comes amid global unrest, especially with the ongoing Gaza conflict. Israel’s involvement has sparked protests and led several artists to pull out. Ebbeståhl commented, “We respect those who choose not to participate. But we urge respect for those who do. Hatred and threats have no place here in Malmö or Sweden.”
Malmö’s Cultural Flair Makes It Eurovision Gold
Swedish TV picked Malmö for its vibrant culture, cutting-edge venues, and proven ability to manage big events smoothly. Ebbeståhl praised the city’s teamwork, saying, “We’re proud to show Malmö as a place that embraces diverse opinions and stands strong on its values. Thanks to everyone making Eurovision in Malmö an inclusive, welcoming event.”
As Eurovision kicks off, Malmö aims to prove it’s not just about the music. It’s about safety, unity, and putting this buzzing Swedish city firmly on the global map.
