Eight hit by car near Belvedere Academy in Toxteth Liverpool

Road taped off outside Academy on Belvidere Road following the incident  that involves  several casualties that are seriously  injured  There is an  Incident support unit, three fire brigades two ambulance, police are at the scene which is taped off outside Belvedere Academy. A passerby reported witnessing a collision involving a yellow Peugeot driven by an OAP in her 80s and a number of pedestrians. “The driver of the Peugeot – a woman aged in her 80s – is also being treated at the scene.”   It’s understood the girls who have  been hit  were boarding a bus at the time they were struck by a  car. Dave Kavanagh, assistant principal of the Belvedere Academy, said: “There has been a road traffic incident outside the school at about 3.30pm. Police are dealing with the incident. ”The parents of the pupils affected have been informed and parents are coming to pick the girls up because the roads are closed so our bus service isn’t running. “We hope they are going to be OK and that they make a speedy recovery. We are all very concerned.” The local hospital have  activated  their  major incident plan. A spokeswoman from Alder Hey hospital said “We can confirm that the Trust has activated its internal major incident plan following a road traffic accident in Liverpool this afternoon. We are unable to provide any further details at this time.” Merseyside Police have issued the  following statement on the incident : Merseyside Police can confirm that emergency services are at the scene of a road traffic collision on Belvidere Road near Princes Park in south Liverpool. “The collision was reported to the police at 3.20pm by a passer-by who witnessed a collision involving a yellow Peugeot and a number of pedestrians. “Police officers, firefighters and paramedics are currently at the scene treating the five casualties who are all female investigation work can be carried out: Belvidere Road Junction of Devonshire Road and Admiral Street Junction of Princess Gate and South Street
