Express FM Makes Big Move to University of Portsmouth

Community radio station Express FM has packed up and shifted its studios to a brand-new home at the University of Portsmouth. Broadcasting 24/7, the station celebrates life across south-east Hampshire and now operates from the University’s swanky Eldon Building.

New Digs in the Heart of Creativity

Previously based at Highbury College on Arundel Street, Express FM has relocated to the Eldon Building’s west wing—a £14 million hub for arts and media. The space houses the University’s Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries, offering the station a closer tie-up with academic talent and resources.

Students Get a Front-Row Seat to Broadcast Action

“It is wonderful to have a live broadcast operation on campus, which will offer our students and staff professional engagement with the media,” said Professor Catherine Harper, Dean of the Faculty.

“Embedding a radio station in our institution provides an excellent opportunity for students to take part in career-enhancing activities. This is key to our new strategy.”

Professor Harper also highlighted the ongoing partnership with Highbury College students, bringing different learners under one roof.

Express FM: A Local Voice for a Decade and Counting

One of the UK’s longest-running community stations, Express FM just secured its third five-year licence. It pumps out 45 different shows weekly, mostly volunteer-led, and remains committed to showcasing local talent, celebrating success, and putting the community’s voice front and centre.

Express FM Founder Delighted with the Relaunch

Station director and founder Cheryl Buggy said, “Having started our life at the University’s Wiltshire Building, it’s fantastic to be back to mark our 10th year in the prestigious Eldon Building. We have fantastic new studios and look forward to bringing the Portsmouth community into this vibrant multi-media environment.”
