Couple Dead Found in Shanklin Property Named Locally

A couple who were found dead in an Albert Road this morning have been named locally as John and Jean Irwin. It is believed that John had been caring for his wife who had been ill for sometime. He had never really come to terms with the fact that he maybe about lose his soul mate. The couple had lived in the Albert Road property for over 15 years, they were apart of the road and many have paid tribute to them. Police have confirmed that they launched a murder investigation into the death of the 83-year-old woman found in the property. Hampshire Constabulary have said that officers found the body of a 77-year-old male alongside the body of a 83-year-old woman at an address on Albert Road this morning. The cause of death is yet to be established, however detectives are continuing to work with forensic officers to establish the full circumstances surrounding both deaths. Officers were called to an address in Albert Road at 7.10am today (Monday, June 20). At this stage police are treating this as an isolated incident and we would like to reassure the community that there is no wider risk. Investigations will continue at the scene as officers work on behalf of the coroner to establish the exact circumstances of the deaths, but detectives can confirm that they are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident. The cordon on the road will remain in place until later this afternoon and we would like to thank residents for their patience as we deal with this incident. Formal identification procedures are ongoing and we will not be in a position to confirm the names of the deceased until these are complete. Specialist officers are currently supporting the next of kin. Post mortem examinations are due to take place tomorrow.
