A pensioner lost control and smashed a Mercedes right into a historic Georgian townhouse in Winchester. Emergency crews raced to the scene after the driver crashed the car into the three-storey building on Southgate Street.
Car Wrecks Into Grade 2 Listed Building
A 320 Mercedes was left wedged deep in the Grade 2 listed property after the driver first hit a parked car and then ploughed into the terrace house.
Recovery teams had to bring in a crane to winch the car out safely.
Office Worker Describes Scary Crash
An office worker who witnessed the mayhem revealed his terror. “The car engine was revving. I think the man may have had his foot stuck on the gas pedal. I was really scared,” he said.
He added: “I just ran and took cover by the fireplace because I thought the car was going to keep shooting forward. The emergency services arrived very quickly and helped get the driver out.”
Road Shut as Rescue Unfolds
The road was closed to allow emergency vehicles clear access to the crash site. Thankfully, the driver was trapped but safely freed by first responders.
