What Do Home-Start Volunteers Do?
Home-Start Portsmouth volunteers visit parents in their homes once a week for a few hours. They tailor support to what each family needs. Sometimes it’s simply lending a sympathetic ear or sharing a laugh. Other times, it’s helping parents keep appointments, access local services, or connect with their community.
Hands-On Help for Parents
Volunteers offer practical help with everyday parenting challenges. They might help with playing, reading, or just being an extra pair of hands. The friendly, personal approach reassures parents they’re not alone and that what they’re going through is completely normal.
Could You Be the Next Volunteer?
No special qualifications needed! If you understand how tough parenting young kids can be, have 2-3 hours a week, and are open-minded and compassionate, you’re a perfect fit. Volunteers complete a preparation course, home interview, DBS check, and receive ongoing support from a coordinator.
