Terror Convict Roger Smith Back Behind Bars for Breaking Notification Rules
Roger Smith, once from Summerwood Lane, Clifton, has been sentenced to 20 months in jail after pleading guilty to breaching a 10-year Terrorist Notification Order.
Failed to Report Key Details
The 53-year-old was caught failing to notify police about a phone number, email address, and passport—crucial breaches of the Counter Terrorism Act 2008. Smith was already a known terror offender, having been convicted in January 2017 for explosives and terrorism offences.
Weapons Hoarder Arrested
Smith also admitted to six counts of possessing offensive weapons in private. When police raided his home on 11 September 2021, they found flick knives, zombie-style blades, and a can of pepper spray.
Police Crackdown Pays Off
Following a thorough investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing East Midlands, Leicester Crown Court handed down Smith’s sentence on Friday 10 March 2023.
Detective Inspector Christopher Brett said: “Roger Smith had already spent time in jail for explosives and terrorist offences, but despite the period served and the interventions in place to support his rehabilitation, he proceeded to breach his notification order and even reverted to building a collection of potentially deadly weapons.”
“Today’s result shows the proactivity involved and the extent to which we go in order to protect communities from terrorism.
