Missing Isle of Wight Walker Found in Dramatic Coastguard Rescue

The Lee-on-Solent Coastguard helicopter Rescue 175 pulled off a daring rescue early this morning, finding a man missing since Sunday on the Isle of Wight.

Search Teams Join Forces Overnight

Hampshire Constabulary asked HM Coastguard for help after the man was reported overdue from his afternoon walk on Sunday, 11 February. Ventnor and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Teams, Bembridge RNLI Lifeboat, and the Coastguard helicopter launched a search just after midnight.

Winching to Safety

Just before 5am, the helicopter located the man. A paramedic winchman was lowered to him and winched onboard. He was suffering from hypothermia and quickly transferred to St Mary’s Hospital.

Authorities say he is now stable, and we wish him a speedy recovery.
