Coastguard Search and Rescue teams called after paraglider injured in Westwight

A Paraglider is this afternoon is recovering in Hospitial after crash landing in the West Wight. A man is understood to have crash landed near to Compton Farm on the Military Road sparking the assistance’s of two coastguard search and rescue teams and the Isle of Wight Ambulance sevice, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air ambulance and a coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Lee on the Solent. Paramedics were called out at around 11.20am this morning to reports of a paraglider pilot who had falled to the ground, an Isle of Wight Ambulance Service spokesman said. Arriving on the scene at 11.45am, paramedics requested assistance from the air ambulance but their mission was hindered by low fog on the West Wight. Teams of Coastguard Search and Rescue officers from Ventnor and Needles where also mobilsed to search for the downed glider just after midday on Sunday afternoon. Paramedics from the Island Ambulance service treated the man at the scene and he has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital The Coastguard Rescue helicopter 175 was then called in to evacuate the casualty, however, the helicopter crew also suffered difficulties in the adverse weather conditions and returned to Lee on Solent a short while later. With an aeronautical extrication ruled out, the casualty was placed into the back of a 4×4 before being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital by land ambulance.
