Firefighters Battle Fierce 'Firenado' at Derbyshire Factory Blaze
In the early hours of Tuesday, August 7, a dramatic fire whirl – dubbed a ‘firenado’ – tore through a South Derbyshire factory on Occupational Lane, Ashby. The fiery tornado was created as cooler air swirled into the rising hot air, much like a real tornado in action.
Massive Blaze Erupts at South Derbyshire Factory
The fire erupted just after 1.40am, sending 60ft-high flames and thick black smoke billowing into the sky. The smoke plume was so vast it was visible up to 26 miles away in Nottingham. Local residents were urged to keep windows shut as the blaze raged.
50 Firefighters Race to Contain Inferno
