Ex-Southampton Taxi Driver Jailed for Horrific Sexual Abuse Spree

A former Southampton taxi driver and DJ was found guilty on ALL 11 charges of sexual abuse against two young girls, dating back to between 1986 and 2003.

Decades of Abuse Uncovered

The vile crimes were carried out repeatedly while the victims were just 3 to 14 years old. The abuse took place at various locations around Southampton and the New Forest. Charges include rape, indecent assault of a female under 16, indecency with a child under 14, and gross indecency with a child under 16.

Breakthrough After 30 Years

The shocking case was cracked thanks to the 1 Yellow Door (formerly Rape Crisis Team). One victim bravely came forward in June 2016, speaking to an Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) about her ordeal. With their support, she reported the abuse to police. This led to the identification of a second victim, who also backed a police probe.

The two-year investigation culminated with the guilty verdict and a hefty jail term. The abuser, named only as Sweed, was sentenced to 18 years behind bars for stealing the victims’ childhoods and inflicting unimaginable pain.

Police and Support Teams Praise Victims’ Bravery

Detective Constable Heather Tack said: “We don’t underestimate the long-lasting effects that this sort of offending has on victims. I would like to thank the women involved for their courage in coming forward and re-living these horrendous experiences in court to bring this man to justice.”

ISVA Coordinator Tracey Stovold added: “It takes enormous courage for victims to report these crimes. They often do so not just for justice, but to protect others.”

The ISVA team and police worked closely, providing vital support to help victims navigate the trauma and legal process.
