Joint lifeboat rescue in the Solent

RNLB ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ (Tamar All-Weather Lifeboat 16-17) was launched this evening at 5.30pm at the request of UK (Solent) Coastguard to assist Portsmouth RNLI’s Atlantic 85 (B-846 – ‘Norma T’) in the area of Langstone Harbour entrance with a 40 foot yacht that had broken its mooring and drifted out of the harbour. The ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ met with the ‘Norma T’ from RNLI Portsmouth a cable NW of Langstone Fairway marker at around 5:45pm on Friday. Assisted by a crew member from the ‘Norma T’ onboard the yacht established a tow back into Langstone Harbour in the very turbulent wind over tide conditions. Once back in smoother waters, the tow was transferred back to the ‘Norma T’ (who berthed the yacht on the Hayling Ferry pontoon) and the ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ returned to Bembridge. She was recovered by 7.30pm the same evening.
