Clothing found on beach prompts search

A search has been launched involving Coastguard Search and rescue officers on the Isle of Wight. The volunteers are are conducting a shoreline search of the beach in Sandown following the discovery of a pile of clothing. The Coastguard CRT team from Bembridge have been tasked by the UK coastguard operations centre after they received a call stating the clothing had been found. The alarm was raised around 10:00am on Saturday morning. UPDATE: The search has now been called off. A spokesperson for the coastguard said teams were called after a pile of clothes was spotted on Sandown beach. However, it was established that these had been left on the beach by a swimmer last night.
