Tragic Loss at Bognor Beach: Bethany Skinner Dies Aged 22

The family of 22-year-old Bethany Skinner have paid a heartfelt tribute after she was found unresponsive in the sea at Bognor and later died in hospital.

Bethany was rushed to hospital in critical condition in the early hours of Sunday, 24 February. Despite intensive care, she passed away on Tuesday, 26 February. Police are now investigating how she ended up in the water and are appealing for any witnesses.

Bright Future Cut Short

Her family expressed their devastation: “Our loss is indescribable. Bethany’s life was going so well.”

Raised in Somerset with her mum and two sisters, Bethany excelled in art at Plymouth University, graduating with distinction. Her stunning willow sculpture reflected her deep love of nature and spirituality. The piece symbolised travel, shelter and home — themes that resonate strongly today, especially for displaced people.

She was working at Butlins in Bognor and had exciting travel plans lined up.

Remembered for Kindness and Creativity

Bethany’s friends, teachers, and acquaintances have shared touching messages, highlighting the huge impact she had on everyone around her. “She was such a kind and caring young woman,” her family said. These tributes have brought some comfort in their grief.

Gratitude for Rescue and Care Teams

The family extended thanks to all involved in Bethany’s rescue and treatment — including the lifeboat crews, police forces in Somerset and Sussex, and Butlins staff who supported them. Special praise went to the intensive care team at St Richard’s Hospital for their compassion and tireless efforts to save her.

Bethany had her whole future ahead of her. The family now mourn the loss of a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, and cousin whose talent and spirit will be sorely missed.
