Police given more time to question new Jodie suspect

The investigation into the murder of Jodie Chesney in Harold Hill continues. An 18-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of murder on 10 March, remains in custody after a warrant for his further detention was sought and granted. Three other people – a 50-year-old man; a 38-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy – who were also arrested on 10 March on suspicion of assisting an offender – have been released under investigation. Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 9.25pm on 1 March, to reports of a stabbing in a park close to St Neot’s Road in Harold Hill. Officers attended and found Jodie suffering from a stab injury. She was pronounced dead at 10.26pm. Her next of kin were informed and a post-mortem examination on 3 March at East Ham mortuary gave cause of death as trauma and haemorrhage. A murder investigation was launched by detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command (HMCC). On 5 March, Manuel Petrovic of Highfield Road, Romford was arrested in Leicester. He was charged with murder and remanded to appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on 9 March and subsequently at the Old Bailey on 11 March. A trial date of 2 September has been set. On 8 March, a 16-year-old male [B] from Romford was arrested in London. He was charged with murder and remanded to appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on 11 March and subsequently at the Old Bailey on 12 March.
