Man arrested after Reading Hammer Attack

Thames Valley Police are appealing for witnesses following an incident in Reading. At around 5.30pm on Tuesday (16/4) a man purchased food at the kebab van on Basingstoke Road, when he was struck by a blue Ford Focus, which had mounted the pavement and then drove off without stopping. The Ford was then followed by a grey car into Reading town centre, which the Focus then hit several other cars, before a collision occurred between the Ford and the grey car on Forbury Road near the railway bridge. A man from one of the vehicles produced a hammer and threatened the occupant from the other vehicle. The men made their way on foot onto Friar Street, one of them tried to get onto a bus and into a taxi. Officers then arrested a man on suspicion of attempted GBH, affray, possession of an offensive weapon and other driving offences. A man received minor injuries to his leg and a cut to his hand following the incident. He required hospital treatment has since been discharged. Investigating officer Detective Constable Marius York, of Force CID based at Reading, said: “This was an incident in the early hours of Thursday evening, where a lot of people would have been commuting home or going about their business. “We are appealing for information to assist in our investigation. “Anyone who has witnessed the incidents on Basingstoke Road, Forbury Road, and Friar Street are asked to get in touch. “Additionally if anyone has footage of these incidents we would ask them to come forward.” Anyone with information should call 101 quoting reference 43190115473 A 30-year-old man from Reading has been arrested in connection with this incident. He has been released on police bail until 14 May.
