Sevenoaks Man Jailed for Historic Child Sex Abuse

A Sevenoaks man has been locked up for six years after being found guilty of repeatedly abusing a teenage boy over 20 years ago. Stephen Madge, 62, was convicted of six counts of indecent assault for offences committed in the 1990s.

Disturbing Abuse Exposed Decades Later

The shocking allegations first came to light in November 2014 when kent-police/" title="Kent Police" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Kent Police were informed about Madge’s abuse during his time working with a charity project. Madge is said to have developed an obsessive fixation on the victim, whom he first met in 1993.

Throughout 1993, Madge repeatedly abused the boy. Police arrested him at his Bradbourne Vale Road home in Sevenoaks in May 2015.

Denials Fail as Jury Delivers Guilty Verdict

Despite his steadfast denials, Madge was charged and stood trial at Maidstone Crown Court. A jury took no time in unanimously finding him guilty on all six counts of indecent assault.

On Tuesday 7 May 2019, Madge was sentenced to six years behind bars, followed by an extended licence period of one year. He was also slapped with an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and added to the sex offenders register for life.

Courageous Victim Praised, Warning Issued

“Sex offenders like Madge wreak incalculable damage on their victims,” said Detective Constable Lisa Roots. “Thankfully, this victim showed extraordinary courage to come forward. Despite the trauma of testifying, justice has now been served.”

Detective Roots urged other survivors of historic abuse to speak out: “We will always fully investigate every accusation, no matter how long ago it happened.”
