Racist Attack Shocks Portsmouth: Police Hunt Assault Suspects
Police are on the lookout after a man was viciously attacked in broad daylight in Portsmouth.
Attack Sparks Outrage Outside University Building
The assault took place between 4pm and 4.45pm on Saturday, March 4, outside the university building on Waltham Street. A 46-year-old man, accompanied by a friend, was set upon by two men crossing the road towards Winston 1 Avenue.
Witnesses reported the attackers shouted racist insults during the confrontation. The victim and his companion were dressed smartly, while the assailants wore jeans.
Police Appeal for Witnesses Following Daylight Assault
Officers want to speak to anyone who saw an altercation involving four men outside the university building around that time.
“This is normally a busy thoroughfare for pedestrians walking into Portsmouth 1 Centre via the Guildhall Square area,” said Police Staff Investigator Julie Kirkpatrick. “The incident happened during daylight hours so someone must have seen what occurred.”
Two Men Arrested, Police Continue Probe
A 50-year-old Southsea man has been arrested for common assault. A 43-year-old from Portsmouth faces charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Both are on bail until April 3.
