Police Dog Stabbed During Knife Incident in Hanley
A police dog was rushed to vets after being stabbed in the head during a dramatic knife attack in Hanley this afternoon (July 1).
Knife-Wielding Suspect Taken Down
Officers responded to reports of a man armed with a knife on Town Road, Hanley, at around 2.15pm. As they tried to detain the suspect, the police dog was stabbed. An officer also suffered injuries during the chaotic struggle.
Suspect Hospitalised After Medical Emergency
The man was detained but is believed to have suffered a medical emergency. He was immediately taken to hospital for treatment.
Police Rally Behind Injured Canine Hero
“Police dogs are our family, not property, and our thoughts are with the dog and his handler at this time,” said Chief Inspector Donna Harvey of Staffordshire Police.
Known as PD Audi, the dog is a beloved member of the Staffordshire Police family. Officers are closely monitoring his recovery.

An investigation is underway. Anyone with information is urged to call 101 quoting incident 469 of 1 July.
