Man Sets Himself on Fire After Girlfriend Dumps Him in Shocking Pub Incident
A desperate man doused himself in petrol and burst into flames after being dumped by his girlfriend in a dramatic scene outside a South East London pub.
Flames Erupt Outside Chislehurst Pub
Morgan Baskett, 42, remains in critical condition after setting himself ablaze near the Queen’s Head pub on Sunday night. The tragedy unfolded following a heated row with a waitress known only as Michelle.
Witnesses say Baskett was engulfed in flames reaching up to 15 feet high. Customers and bystanders rushed to help, desperately trying to extinguish the fire and save him.
Heroic Diner Owner Saves Life
The owner of the nearby Mirage 2 Diner risked his own safety by running out with a fire extinguisher to battle the blaze. “We saw it all unfold. The flames were enormous,” he said. Several pub-goers also joined the life-saving effort.
Aftermath: Damage and Investigation
Baskett’s silver VW Golf was severely damaged in the fiery episode. Emergency crews treated him at the scene before rushing him by police escort to a central London hospital.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed: “Police were called at approximately 9pm on Sunday to reports of a man committing self-harm in High Road, Chislehurst. The London Ambulance Service attended and treated the man at the scene. He was taken to a South London hospital where he remains in a critical condition. Enquiries continue.”
