Missing Kayaker Found Safe After Dramatic Nighttime Rescue
The UK Coastguard has confirmed that a missing kayaker was found safe onshore overnight, thanks to tips from the public. The man had to abandon his inflatable kayak at sea and swim back to shore in the dark but is now well.
Man Goes Overdue Near Portobello Beach
HM Coastguard launched a search after receiving reports that the man had not returned. He set off at around 3.15pm from the western end of Portobello Beach, near Seafield 1 Centre, in a bright blue inflatable kayak with white stripes. He was last spotted around 4pm, two miles off the coast.
Details of the Missing Kayaker and Rescue Efforts
- Male aged 30-40 years
- Height: Approx. 175cm
- Slim build, tanned complexion, short hair
- Wearing jeans and jumper, no lifejacket
- Carrying a rucksack
The intense rescue mission involved the Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Inverness, RNLI lifeboats from Kinghorn and Anstruther, and Coastguard teams from Fisherrow, South Queensferry, and North Berwick. Police Scotland officers also joined the search effort.
Thanks to public information and the relentless efforts of rescue crews, the kayaker was safely located and brought to shore after a tense night.
