Knife-Wielding Man Arrested After Eight-Hour Standoff in Bognor Regis
A tense eight-hour stand-off ended in the arrest of a 37-year-old man at the Royal Norfolk Hotel in Bognor Regis on Monday.
Drama at Royal Norfolk Hotel
Sussex Police were called at 9.28am after reports of a man in distress armed with a large knife at the hotel on The Esplanade. A cordon quickly sealed off the area to keep the public and emergency crews safe.
Two hotel staff were the only others inside and left the building unharmed.
Specialist Negotiator Defuses Crisis
A specialist police negotiator spent hours talking the man down. At 5.30pm, armed officers swooped and arrested him on suspicion of affray.
Thankfully, no shots were fired and no one was injured during the ordeal.
Police Praise Public Patience
“I’d like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we responded to this incident,” said Superintendent Justin Burtenshaw.
“This was an isolated case contained to the hotel with no wider threat. Local officers will remain on duty in the area throughout the evening.”
