Seven Nabbed in East London Drug Raids
Seven men have been arrested in early-morning drug raids across East London, police revealed today (Wednesday, 22 April). The swoops were part of an ongoing crack-down under Operation Continuum.
Targets in Hackney and Stamford Hill
The arrests came after officers executed 10 warrants in Woodberry Down, Brownswood, and Stamford Hill. All suspects, aged 17 to 22, face charges of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs and are now in custody at local police stations.
Operation Continuum Strikes Again
Detective Inspector Sean Lyons, from the Hackney and Tower Hamlets Gangs Unit, said:
“Just over a month ago, officers working on Operation Continuum arrested 16 people for drug supply offences across Tower Hamlets. We have been back out again this morning, this time in Hackney, to arrest more people who we suspect to be involved in the peddling of drugs on our streets. We will continue to bear down on those who are dealing drugs in Central East and prosecute anyone involved.”
Operation Continuum is a joint effort between the Metropolitan Police, local authorities, and housing associations. It was launched to smash drug dealing and make neighbourhoods safer.
Previous Raids Yield Big Results
The latest raids follow a major operation in Mile End on 12 March, where 20 warrants led to 14 arrests and a major haul of Class A drugs and cash.
Officers from the Basic Command Unit, Taskforce Command, the Met’s Gangs Taskforce, and the Dog Unit have backed this year’s Operation Continuum actions.
Support for Vulnerable Locals
Hackney Council and outreach teams are on hand to help vulnerable people affected by the raids. They’re offering substance misuse support and listening to community concerns to tackle the root causes of drug problems.
