Swift Justice: Arrested Sunday Jailed Tuesday

Swift Justice: Arrested Sunday, Jailed Tuesday. It took 2 days to jail a man after he was found guilty for spitting in ‘#policeofficers‘ faces

A man who spat in the faces of two police officers after they swiftly responded to a disturbance in #Worksop has been jailed for six months.

The officers had arrested 32-year-old #DanielHagerty after they were called to an incident at an address on Edinburgh Walk on Sunday (19 April 2020).

He became aggressive and swore at the officers before deliberately spitting in one of their faces with it going into his eye.

He was immediately told to stop spitting but when the other officer came to assist, Hagerty turned his face and spat a second time directly at him.

Hagerty, of Edinburgh Walk, #Worksop, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault by beating of an emergency worker when he appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court today (Tuesday 21 April 2020).

#ChiefSuperintendent #RobGriffin, of #NottinghamshirePolice, said: “This sentence sends a clear message that vile acts such as this will not be put up with in any shape or form and especially not now in the current climate.

“In these worrying times for us all having someone deliberately spitting at front line officers is both despicable and appalling.

“There is a zero tolerance approach towards the perpetrators of assaults on police officers and fellow emergency workers.

“People should be in no doubt that incidents will be taken seriously and offenders will be robustly dealt with.

“Our officers are putting their duty to the public ahead of their own welfare at this current time. They put themselves at risk every single to day in order to protect our communities – they should not and will not have to tolerate this sort of abusive behaviour.”
