West Sussex Snags New Deputy Chief Fire Officer
West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service has named Mark Andrews as its new Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO), announced today (Friday).
From East Sussex to Home Ground
Mark, currently Assistant Chief Fire Officer at East Sussex Fire & Rescue since June 2016, is returning to his roots. He began his fire service career with West Sussex before spells at London Fire Brigade, rising to Lewisham Borough Commander and Deputy Assistant Commissioner.
Mark also leads national efforts on high-risk accommodation and business engagement via the National Fire Chiefs Council.
Mark’s Homecoming: A Personal Mission
“West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service is where I started my career and I am delighted to come back as Deputy Chief Fire Officer at such an exciting time,” Mark said. “Though I’ve enjoyed my roles in London and East Sussex, West Sussex is where I grew up and still live. It’s an honour to serve the county that means so much to me.”
He paid tribute to retiring Neil Stocker, who steps down after 29 years, saying: “I am grateful to Neil Stocker for his tremendous work and the legacy he is handing over.”
Leaders Praise Appointment
West Sussex Chief Fire Officer Sabrina Cohen-Hatton said: “I am delighted Mark Andrews will be our new Deputy Chief Fire Officer. His people-centred approach impressed me, and I’m confident he will strengthen our leadership and improve public service.”
East Sussex Chief Fire Officer Dawn Whittaker added: “Congratulations to Mark on his appointment. We look forward to working closely together, boosting collaboration between our services to keep Sussex safe.”
