Family Pays Heartfelt Tribute to Beloved Diplomat
Following formal identification, Richard’s family were informed and are receiving specialist support. They described him as a devoted family man and world traveller.
“From childhood European holidays and a US university scholarship to serving as Ambassador to Nepal, Richard loved to travel,” the family said.
“Described as funny, kind and smart by his diplomatic colleagues, he worked for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office with professionalism and integrity for nearly 30 years.
“His empathy and kindness earned him respect worldwide, shown by the flood of messages we have received from across the globe.
“A passionate runner, Richard considered himself ‘more of an enthusiastic weekend trail runner than podium finisher’. He completed five marathons on four continents, most recently in Nepal, where he fundraised for Changing Faces, a UK charity where he was a trustee.
“Above all, Richard was a loving and loyal husband, father, son and brother. He showed us the world, but he was our world. We are devastated by his loss.
“We thank all the organisations and individuals who have supported us over the past few months.”
