Dangerous Offender Locked Up After Brutal Home Invasion
Jason McCash, 36, has been slapped with an extended three-year licence after being branded a dangerous offender by Judge Beverley Lunt at Preston Crown Court.
Masked Robbers Target Elderly Couple
The terrifying break-in happened at 11pm on January 27 in Marlborough Road. A woman in her 60s and a man in his 70s thought they were answering their son’s knock. Instead, two masked intruders forced their way inside, one later identified as McCash, and demanded money.
McCash struck the man on the head and shoved him to the floor. Then he threatened the woman with a knife, dragging her down too. Despite her injuries, she managed to crawl away and call the police.
Stolen Car Abandoned, Victims Hospitalised
The robbers made off with the couple’s handbag and their Vauxhall. The car was found abandoned shortly after on Lee Street. Both victims were hospitalised but have since been discharged with non-life-threatening injuries.
Meanwhile, McCash ended up at Royal Preston Hospital with a serious stab wound to his stomach, sustained during the chaos of the robbery.
Sham Story and Charges Pile Up
McCash and a female accomplice claimed his stomach injury came from an altercation with a woman they knew. This falsehood led to the wrongful arrest of a woman in her 30s, who was later cleared and released without charge.
McCash now faces charges including two counts of robbery, unlawful taking of a vehicle, conspiracy to pervert justice, and a burglary committed the night before the raid.
“This was a despicable crime against two vulnerable victims in their own home,” said DC Rubina Akoo of East CID. “McCash showed callous disregard for their welfare and lied to incriminate an innocent woman.”
“I welcome the sentence and the judge’s decision to deem McCash a danger to the public. He’ll be off our streets for a long time. I hope the public can now sleep easier.”
“I also want to praise the bravery of the victims who faced this nightmare and helped bring McCash to justice. I hope their courage encourages others to come forward knowing Lancashire Constabulary will act with professionalism and compassion.”
