UK Set for Epic 4-Day Bank Holiday to Celebrate Queen’s Platinum Jubilee
The May Bank Holiday in 2022 is shifting gears! It will be moved to Thursday, 2nd June, followed by an extra Bank Holiday on Friday, 3rd June. This means a rare four-day weekend to honour Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee – the first British monarch ever to hit this historic 70-year milestone on the throne.
World’s Eyes on the UK for Jubilee Celebrations
The build-up to this grand four-day weekend will ramp up throughout 2022, as the UK gears up to host the world’s spotlight. Expect a dazzling display combining classic British pomp with cutting-edge art and tech.
Tradition Lives on with Special Jubilee Medals
Continuing a royal tradition dating back to Queen Victoria’s 50th anniversary on the throne, a Platinum Jubilee medal will be handed out to public servants. This includes the Armed Forces, emergency services, and prison staff – a tribute to their dedicated service during Her Majesty’s reign.
Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said: “Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee will be a truly historic moment – and one that deserves a celebration to remember.”
“We can all look forward to a special, four-day Jubilee weekend, when we will put on a spectacular, once-in-a-generation show that mixes the best of British ceremonial splendour with cutting edge art and technology. It will bring the entire nation and the Commonwealth together in a fitting tribute to Her Majesty’s reign.”
