Paedo Grandad Jailed for 16 Years Over 1970s Child Sex Abuse
Raymond John Hollis, 79, from Briar Close, Westbury, Wiltshire, has been slammed with 16 years behind bars. He pleaded guilty to 12 counts of historic child sex offences that happened in Camberley during the 1970s.
Abuse Hidden for 45 Years
The vile attacks took place over six years while the victim was just 5 to 11 years old. The abuse was kept secret for an unbelievable 45 years until the victim finally found the courage to contact police in March 2019.
Hollis was swiftly arrested less than a month later, on 8 April 2019.
Multiple Charges Leading to Guilty Pleas
After a rigorous investigation, Hollis was charged on 24 December 2019 with six counts of indecent assault and six counts of gross indecency against a child under 13 between 1973 and 1979.
He admitted guilt on 11 of the 12 counts on 30 November 2020. He had already pleaded guilty to the remaining count at an earlier hearing.
Police Praise Victim’s Bravery, Warn Off Offenders
“The victim has shown remarkable courage and bravery in coming forward and reporting this offence to the police,” said Detective Constable Mike Powell from the Sexual Offences Investigation Team.
“Because of their bravery, a dangerous predator has been stopped from harming others. This conviction sends a clear message: no matter how long ago the crime happened, Surrey Police will pursue justice relentlessly.”
