David Attenborough Goes 5G with Mind-Blowing Nature App
Sir David Attenborough is stepping into the 5G age! The broadcasting legend will star in a brand-new augmented reality app that uses ultra-fast 5G to bring the natural world straight into your living room. This cutting-edge app, linked to the upcoming BBC series The Green Planet, lets users stream high-res ‘holographic’ footage of Sir David alongside vivid, lifelike graphics of exotic plants and wildlife.
5G Set to Revolutionise Entertainment and Industry
Developed by EE and immersive content studio Factory 42, this app is just one of nine projects benefiting from a whopping £28.3 million investment by the UK government and businesses to unleash 5G’s potential. From sports stadiums offering multi-angle replays on your phone to driverless taxis and smart parking at Milton Keynes’ MK Stadium, 5G is set to turbocharge Britain’s tech scene.
From Yorkshire Caves to Cornwall’s Eden Project
Leeds’ Candour TV is testing 5G’s power by broadcasting live from tough terrains including caving in the Yorkshire Dales and sea cliff climbing in North Wales. If successful, 5G could become the go-to for TV and social media creators alike. Meanwhile, Cornwall’s Eden Project is using 360-degree video and 5G to boost visitor experiences, and on the Isle of Wight, immersive virtual reality is encouraging yacht racing.
5G Boosts UK Ports, Construction & Economy
At ports like Felixstowe and Bristol, 5G-powered cranes and real-time goods tracking promise to ramp up efficiency, supporting Britain’s push as a global trading powerhouse. Construction firms in Glasgow and Shetland are trialling 5G drones and sensors to upgrade work sites.
Matt Warman, Minister for Digital Infrastructure, said: “5G is about far more than faster internet. We’re investing millions to help Britain’s brightest innovators unlock technology that can enrich lives and supercharge our economy.”
On the Attenborough app, he added: “This inspiring project shows how 5G can reconnect us with nature and give British industries an edge.”
Iain Stewart, UK Government Minister for Scotland, said: “These 5G trials will transform Scottish industry with faster connections and innovative tech. This is a vital investment for our future.”
The £200 million government fund supporting 5G testbeds and trials will also explore the tech behind Open RAN – a system offering telecom firms greater choice and security, as laid out in the UK’s 5G Diversification Strategy.
