Baby Millie-Rose Brutally Killed by Partner and Mother in Shocking Case
Terrifying Injuries Reveal Months of Abuse
Baby Millie-Rose Burdett was rushed to hospital after paramedics responded to a 999 call at her mother’s home in Rickmansworth just before 1pm on 15 December 2018. Davey Everson, 23, from Edmonton, North London, claimed the newborn had choked while he was feeding her alone. But doctors uncovered a horrific truth: Millie-Rose had suffered a series of severe injuries over time.
- Brain bleed from head trauma
- Multiple fractured ribs
- Leg fractures
- Compression fractures to her spine
Medical experts believe the tiny baby was shaken “violently and forcefully” on more than one occasion.
Fatal Shaking and Throwing Causes Baby’s Death
The trial revealed Everson inflicted the final, deadly injury by shaking Millie-Rose and throwing her against a surface, likely her cot. Despite intensive care, baby Millie tragically died aged just three months on 11 January 2019.
Everson and Mother Convicted in Heartbreaking Trial
After a three-week trial at St Albans Crown Court, the jury found Everson guilty of murder and cruelty to another unnamed child. Millie’s mother, 25-year-old Kirsty Burdett, was also convicted of causing or allowing her daughter’s death and neglect of another child.
“This is a tragic and heart-breaking case that has resulted in the death of an innocent baby,” said Detective Inspector Iain Macpherson. “Everson is a dangerous and cruel man who has shown no remorse. He has never explained how Millie-Rose suffered her fatal injuries.”
DI Macpherson added that Burdett “put her own interests before her child” and failed to protect Millie-Rose. She even lied, blaming bruises on a fall from a car seat when Everson was responsible. On another occasion, she witnessed Everson force a bottle into Millie-Rose’s mouth causing it to bleed, yet continued to leave her daughter alone with him.
Sentencing Set for February 12 at The Old Bailey
Everson and Burdett will be sentenced at The Old Bailey in London on Friday 12 February. Police vowed, “Our focus was to achieve justice for Millie-Rose, and this investigation has given her a voice.”
