£500 Million Pothole Cash Boost for England’s Councils
England’s councils are set to receive a massive £500 million pot to tackle the equivalent of 10 million potholes. This comes as part of a larger road maintenance fund topping £1.1 billion aimed at fixing England’s crumbling highways.
Gosport MP Welcomes Lifeline for Hampshire Roads
Caroline Dinenage, MP for Gosport, praised the funding, saying:
“I am pleased to see funding to fix our potholes and improve our Hampshire highways. I look forward to seeing the benefits that this will bring to constituents when we can more widely travel as COVID-19 restrictions are slowly lifted.”
Since 2015, the Department for Transport has already poured £296 million into the Pothole Action Fund, with an extra £240 million handed to highway authorities in 2018.
Transport Minister: Potholes Are More Than a Nuisance
Transport Minister Baroness Vere highlighted the danger potholes pose:
“We know potholes are more than just a nuisance – they can be dangerous to drivers and cyclists alike, and cause damage to thousands of vehicles every year.
“The funding allocated today will help councils ensure roads in their area are kept up to standard, and that the potholes that blight road users can be dealt with promptly.”
This fresh cash injection promises safer, smoother journeys across England’s roads — just what drivers have been crying out for.
