Knife Attacker Jailed for Two and Half Years After Brutal Burngreave Stabbing
Franklin Tomlinson, 61, with no fixed address, was sentenced to two years and six months in jail at Sheffield Crown Court on Thursday 18 February. He had earlier pleaded guilty to wounding with intent on 17 February.
Frightening Stabbing Nearly Fatal
On 16 August 2020, Tomlinson stabbed his victim at a Burngreave residence, causing serious injuries. One stab wound to the neck was so severe it nearly killed the victim.
After the attack, Tomlinson fled. The victim was rushed to hospital following a police call. Officers hunted Tomlinson for days and finally arrested him on 19 August 2020. He was remanded in custody.
Police Praise Victim’s Bravery as Justice Is Served
“I am pleased with this sentencing result,” said PC Megan Pryce, lead investigator. “The attack was incredibly violent and cruel. I’m glad Tomlinson is now off our streets and spending the next two and a half years behind bars.”
“I want to thank the victim for their bravery in coming forward. I hope this sentence helps the healing process.”
“This should also serve as a warning – South Yorkshire police will not tolerate violent crime. If you’re involved, we will catch you.”
