Drama Above Hundred House: Pilot Crashes and Trapped in Trees
A daring rescue mission kicked off on Sunday after a pilot crashed near Hundred House, just outside Llandrindod Wells in Powys. Firefighters, paramedics, and mountain rescue teams raced to the scene around 2pm to mount the urgent operation.
Pilot Suffers Serious Injuries
The man was airlifted to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff with head, leg, and pelvic injuries. Crews from all over joined the rescue effort, including teams from Carmarthenshire, Pontardawe in the Swansea Valley, Aberystwyth in Ceredigion, and local Powys firefighters from Llandrindod and Builth, said Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue.
Epic Three-Hour Rescue Struggle
Helimed flying doctors from the Emergency Medical Retrieval Service stabilised the pilot at the scene. Rescuers then battled for nearly three hours to free him from thick tree branches. Finally, the pilot was winched onto a coastguard rescue helicopter and flown the 65 miles to Cardiff for emergency treatment.
