Jealousy Leads to Brutal Stabbing in Hastings – Man Jailed for Seven Years
A factory worker spiralled into a jealous rage during a night out in Hastings, stabbing a man he’d just met and landing himself behind bars for seven years.
Night Out Turns Deadly
On November 3, 2018, the victim was enjoying a quiet drink at a town centre pub when he struck up a conversation with a group, including 33-year-old Dean Ellis from St Leonards. As the evening wore on, Ellis grew jealous when the victim chatted with a woman from their group.
After being told to go home, Ellis left. But in the early hours of November 4, when the group returned to a property on Battle Road, St Leonards, the situation turned violent.
Attack Leaves Victim with Life-Changing Injuries
Ellis stabbed the victim through the hand and abdomen. The victim was rushed to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton for major surgery. The wounds left him with permanent, life-altering injuries.
Justice Served at Hove Crown Court
Arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, Ellis pleaded guilty. On Friday, May 14, Hove Crown Court sentenced him to seven years in prison plus an extra three years on extended licence.
DS Chris Milner of Hastings CID said, “This was a particularly nasty attack, borne out of jealousy, where an innocent man received life-changing injuries at the hands of Dean Ellis.”
“The victim has shown great courage during a long and drawn-out investigation, and we hope this sentence will allow him to move on with his life. Sussex Police is committed to reducing knife-related harm through its Op Safety team, and this result shows we will deal robustly with those who carry and use knives to hurt others.”
