Teen Jailed for Brutal Knife Attack in Grays Park

A 15-year-old boy was stabbed in a savage attack at King George’s Field, Grays, suffering a collapsed lung and a severed tendon. The victim may face long-term damage to his left hand after the terrifying assault.

Knife Attack Sparks Shock in Local Park

The victim, walking with his girlfriend near Jesmond Road on 15 March, spotted a 14-year-old he knew. As they passed, the attacker called out and plunged a large knife into the boy’s upper arm and chest.

The attack needed emergency surgery. The victim’s injuries included a collapsed lung and serious damage to his hand.

Young Attacker Convicted but Denies Charges

The 14-year-old defendant from Chafford Hundred denied the stabbing but was convicted of grievous bodily harm with intent after a trial at Southend and Chelmsford Youth Courts last month.

He is currently in custody and faces sentencing next month at Chelmsford Crown Court. Reporting restrictions mean the identities of both boys cannot be published.

Police Warn Against Knife Crime

“This was a vicious and senseless attack, all the more shocking given the ages involved,” said PC Brian Sargent. “There is never any excuse to carry knives or weapons. They endanger lives — not just others, but your own.

“It’s vital we speak to young people about the dangers of weapons and let them know help is available if they suspect someone is carrying a knife.

“Together as a community, we can keep our children safe.”
