Gun and Drug Duo Locked Up After Phone Chats Blow Their Cover
Police Snag Men Over Gun and Drugs Plot
Umair Karim, 22, and Muhammed Hassan, 27, were caught red-handed – or rather, red-texted – following a police probe into an unrelated case. Detectives swooped with a search warrant on Karim’s home and struck gold: a stash of messages plotting the buy and use of a handgun.
‘Doctor’ Hassan Eyes Firearm, Karim Brags About Arsenal
The evidence laid bare Hassan’s determined approach to Karim, who had earned the nickname “Doctor”. Hassan made no bones about wanting a weapon, while Karim boasted about access to serious firepower, including a Mac-11 machine pistol and an AK-47 assault rifle.
The incriminating chats didn’t stop at guns; they also detailed drug dealing plans.
Denials Fail to Save Duo from Jail
Karim owned up to the messages but insisted it was all talk – learned from internet videos, not reality. Hassan kept silent during questioning.
Both men faced Nottingham Crown Court yesterday where they pleaded guilty to conspiracy to transfer firearms. Karim also admitted involvement in supplying class B drugs, while Hassan confessed to dealing class A, B, and C substances.
Five Years Behind Bars
The court handed down jail terms of five years and three months each.
Detective Sergeant Julian Eminson-Ferry said: “Nottinghamshire Police treat all firearms offences with the utmost seriousness. Even talking about guns carries serious consequences. We didn’t need a weapon in hand – the mobile phone evidence was enough to lock these men up. Let this be a warning: we’re cracking down hard on any flicker of gun crime.”
