Police Hunt Reckless Scrambler Riders Terrorising Southampton Parks
Southampton cops have launched a fresh appeal to track down scrambler bike riders who have been causing chaos in Millbrook’s Mansell Park, Green Park, and Wimpson Lane areas.
Dangerous Riding on Wimpson Lane
On Sunday, April 3 at around 2pm, a rider on a yellow scrambler bike was spotted weaving recklessly along Wimpson Lane and near the roundabout by KFC. Witnesses say the rider swerved into oncoming traffic and sped dangerously close to pedestrians and other vehicles.
The bike is described as yellow and white, sporting the number ‘83’ on its side. Police believe this rider often teams up with others on white scrambler-style bikes in the area.
Community Fear for Safety
PC Sarah Miller said: “Many families and dog walkers were enjoying a sunny Sunday afternoon in the parks. Instead, they had to endure dangerous and irresponsible driving from this rider.
“At one point, the rider almost lost control and even circled a PCSO, who was nearly driven at. This behaviour is all too common here, and we fear someone will get seriously injured.”
She added: “These riders often have no licence, no insurance, and ride unroadworthy bikes. They race across parks used by dog walkers and close to children’s playgrounds.”
Police Urge Public to Help Catch Offenders
- Police want locals to come forward with any info about the bikes and riders.
- The team believes community support can help seize bikes and stop these offenders.
- If you have seen the yellow scrambler bike or the similar white ones, ring 101 in confidence.
