Tragedy on Hackney Building Site as Worker Crushed by Falling Girder

A construction worker was tragically crushed to death by a metal girder this afternoon on East Road, Hackney.

Desperate Rescue Fails

Emergency crews rushed to the scene after the girder fell while being lifted by a crane. Paramedics and firefighters battled to free the man, but he was pronounced dead at the site. The London Fire Brigade was called at 1.31pm, with two fire engines from Shoreditch and Islington plus a rescue unit from Euston attending.

Investigation Underway

The Health and Safety Executive and Metropolitan Police are now probing the incident. The site remains cordoned off as police work to notify the man’s next of kin.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called at 1.25pm by the London Ambulance Service to a building site on East Road, Hoxton. A man was struck by a falling object. The London Fire Brigade and Air Ambulance also attended. Sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are working to inform his next of kin.”
