London Police Commander Sounds Alarm Over Teen Homicides
Commander Alex Murray, the Met’s lead on violence in London, expressed deep sorrow and concern over the rising teenage killings. “Each homicide this year is a tragedy,” he said. “They’re not just numbers—these victims had families and futures stolen from them.”
Met Pledges Big Resources to Fight Violence
Determined to halt the bloodshed, Murray revealed a multi-pronged crackdown effort underway across the capital. “Every officer is fired up to catch the killers, bring justice, and get weapons off our streets,” he said.
- Violence Suppression Units active in all 12 London command zones
- Pan-London squads like the Violent Crime Taskforce and Territorial Support Group targeting gangs and drugs
- Specialist detectives dismantling networks and solving murders
- Partnerships with the Violence Reduction Unit to tackle root causes
- Youth engagement initiatives and safer schools officers
- Divert programmes offering young offenders alternative paths
Hard Calls Save Lives Campaign Makes Strides
Murray also praised the award-winning “Hard Calls Save Lives” campaign, created with Crimestoppers and bereaved mothers, urging the public to come forward with info on knife crime or violence. “Our combined efforts have cut knife crime by 32% and reduced victims under 25 by 29% compared to pre-pandemic times,” he stated.
Community Help Needed to Keep London Safe
“Tackling violence remains our top priority,” Murray stressed. “But we need the public and partner agencies on board to find lasting solutions.”
He urged anyone with information to call 101 or Crimestoppers, promising complete anonymity. “No tip is too small. It could save a life.”
