Man Goes on Furious Rampage at Newport Homeless Hostel
Drugs-fuelled Smash-Up Sparks Police Arrest
Chaos erupted on Tuesday night at a homeless hostel in Newport after a man went on a violent rampage, smashing up parts of the building and attacking a staff member. Staff at the Salvation Army hostel on Pyle Street called police in fear as the 22-year-old, reportedly high on drugs, lost control.
‘His Eyes Were Like Flying Saucers’
Witnesses described the man’s wild behaviour, with one saying his eyes were “like flying saucers.” Despite staff trying to calm him down, the man lashed out aggressively before fleeing the scene.
Police Step In – No Serious Injuries
Officers arrived shortly after 10.30pm and quickly stopped and restrained the man. Thankfully, nobody suffered serious injuries during the violent outburst. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of assault, criminal damage, and possession of an offensive weapon.
Man Held in Custody at Newport Police Station
The 22-year-old local remains in custody at Newport Police Station as inquiries continue. Police have urged anyone with information to come forward.
