Teen Girl Raped Near McDonald’s in Peckham – Man in Custody
Just after 6.28pm on Sunday, January 30, police were alerted to the horrific rape of a 15-year-old girl near Elm Grove, SE15.
The teenage victim was walking past McDonald’s on Rye Lane when a man approached her. He lured her down Elm Grove to a small green space between Elm Grove and Bellenden Road, where he sexually assaulted her.
Suspect Description and Arrest
The attacker is described as a black male in his 20s or 30s, around 5ft 6in tall, medium build, with cropped hair and a full beard. He wore a hooded puffa jacket and black jogging bottoms.
Police arrested a man in his 30s the following day, January 31. He remains in custody while officers carry out inquiries.
Investigation Underway, Community Reassurance
Detective Superintendent Clair Kelland said: “We have launched an extensive and fast moving investigation into this horrendous incident. We’re doing everything we can to support the young victim.”
She added: “We know this will impact the local community, especially women and young girls. Extra reassurance patrols will be in the area over the coming days.”
DS Kelland also clarified: “The stranger rape reported on January 14 did not happen in Peckham, and there is no evidence linking these cases.”
Call for Witnesses
Police urge anyone who was near Elm Grove between 5pm and 7pm on January 30 and saw anything suspicious to come forward.
