25 Years On: Who Killed John Kennedy in East London Pub?
John Kennedy was viciously stabbed to death 25 years ago this Saturday inside The Railway Arms pub on Sutton Street, E1. The attack happened at around 5:50am on 8 February 1997.
Tragic Night at The Railway Arms
John, 31, was a self-employed electrician and local footballer, as well as a devoted dad to two children. On the night of the murder, John had been out with friends, hitting several pubs before arriving at The Railway Arms at about 3am. Around 60 people were inside the busy pub.
He was approached by a suspect, and what started as a heated chat quickly turned deadly. John was brutally attacked and stabbed before collapsing on the floor. The killer fled with another man, escaping in a vehicle.
Police Plea as Family Demands Justice
Detective Inspector Kevin Prosser said: “Many people inside The Railway Arms that night have stayed silent for 25 years. I urge anyone with information to come forward now. After all this time, your help could finally bring justice for John.”
A spokesperson for John’s family added: “We appeal to witnesses to break their silence. John’s life was taken senselessly, and the killer must be held accountable. Misguided loyalty or codes of silence cannot stand in the way of justice. Please, after 25 years, do the right thing.”
£30,000 Reward Offered
The Metropolitan Police are offering a £30,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of John’s murderer. Anyone with info is urged to contact the incident room on 020 8345 3985.
