A249 Northbound Shut for Three Days as Utility Work Hits Kent
Brace yourselves, Kent drivers! The A249 northbound will be closed between the M20 junction 7 roundabout and Stockbury roundabout from 10pm Friday 4 March until 5am Monday 7 March. Utility pipes and services need moving – and that means no access northbound from M20 junction 7.
What’s the Traffic Chaos?
- The southbound carriageway stays open as normal.
- Traffic from Sittingbourne to maidstone/" title="Maidstone" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Maidstone can travel without change.
- Crossovers from the southbound side allow access to roads off the northbound carriageway.
- No crossing over the A249 via Oad Street to reach Stockbury roundabout during this time.
- Properties along the northbound side will remain accessible.
Follow These Diversions – Don’t Get Caught Out!
For Motorway Traffic:
- Head west on M20 towards Junction 6.
- Exit westbound slip road onto A229 northbound towards Gillingham.
- At Lord Lees roundabout, take third exit onto A229.
- At next roundabout, take third exit onto M2 eastbound towards Canterbury.
- At M2 Junction 5, exit eastbound onto Stockbury interchange and continue your journey.
For Non-Motorway Traffic:
- Take A249 into Maidstone.
- Turn right onto A229 northbound towards Gillingham.
- Continue to A2 roundabout, take second exit onto A2 eastbound towards Sittingbourne.
- At Key Street roundabout, take fifth exit onto A249 southbound towards Maidstone.
