Missing London Cat Molly Found Just in Time
A two-year-old black cat named Molly from Brent, North West London, vanished on April 1, 2022—the very day her owner, Colin Ortutai-Hughes, was told to leave his home by his letting agent. After five tense days, Molly is finally safe and back with Colin.
Owner’s Nightmare as Molly Disappears Amid Eviction
Molly had darted out just as a removal van was ready to pack Colin’s belongings for storage. The 45-year-old father of four had been desperately searching but feared the worst. “I was terrified she’d dash onto the busy road and get hit,” said Colin. “With the shock of being forced out and the front door locks changed, losing Molly felt like the final straw.”
Colin, a local Brent resident, was especially worried because Molly is an indoor cat and had four-month-old kittens. “She needed to be neutered, and I was anxious about her health in the cold.”
Furry and Filthy: Molly Covered in Oily Gunk
When Molly finally turned up, Colin was relieved but alarmed. Her fur was matted and covered in an unknown, oily substance—smelling odd but odourless. Colin rushed her to The Mayhew animal charity, where she was cleaned and examined.
Thankfully, vets found Molly was in good health with no lasting damage. She was given blankets and wet and dry food to aid recovery.
Kittens Taken In for Safety
Worried about the oily mess harming her kittens, Mayhew offered to look after them while finding safe, loving homes. A Welfare Officer said, “Molly stayed happy and gentle despite everything. Though we don’t know how she got covered in the substance, our focus is her full recovery and eventual reunion with her family.”
Molly has since been neutered and is now back with Colin. He’s staying with friends while hunting pet-friendly housing to get them all settled again.
