Armed Man Shot by Police in Scunthorpe Standoff
Chaos erupted on Theodore Road, Scunthorpe, on Wednesday evening when police were called to reports of a man armed with weapons inside a house. The drama unfolded around 6.30pm as officers rushed to the scene.
Police Fire Shots; Man Taken to Hospital
Deputy Chief Constable Paul Anderson revealed officers acted swiftly. A cordon was set up to safeguard neighbours. During the tense standoff, police discharged their weapons, shooting the man. He was rushed to hospital and is now in stable condition.
Two Officers Seriously Injured in Incident
Tragically, two responding officers were also hurt in the chaos. Both sustained serious injuries and were hospitalised. The Deputy Chief Constable confirmed the wounded officers and their colleagues are receiving full support from line managers, the Police Federation, and welfare teams.
Independent Investigation Underway
The disturbing event has been passed to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which has launched a probe. An IOPC spokesperson said the investigation remains in its early stages but confirmed firearms were discharged and no one sustained life-threatening injuries.
“We wish all involved a speedy recovery. Our investigators are gathering initial accounts from officers and examining the scene,” said the IOPC spokesperson.
Jonathan Evison, Humberside’s Police and Crime Commissioner, commented: “The Chief Constable has briefed me on last night’s incident. It’s standard procedure to refer such matters to the IOPC, so further comment isn’t appropriate at this stage.”
