Golf Club Attacker Jailed for 11 Years After Brutal Home Invasion
At 7.46pm on March 23, chaos erupted on Corporation Street when a man broke into an upstairs flat through an open window. Inside, he was confronted by the occupants and then fled — only to return minutes later with a violent threat.
Violent Robbery Shocks Victims
The intruder threatened the victim and his wife, demanding cash. When the victim tried to defend himself, the thug swung a golf club twice at his head, injuring his hand. The attacker then stole the victim’s wallet from his wheelchair before making off.
Quick Police Work Leads to Arrest
Just hours later, police were called to a property on Sherwood Road following reports of two men breaking in. Officers recognised Shaun Wrigley from CCTV linked to the initial robbery and arrested him on the spot. A search revealed a knuckle duster hidden in Wrigley’s pocket.
Wrigley, 37, from Bridge Street, Liverpool, appeared at Preston Crown Court and was sentenced to 11 years for assault with intent to rob, burglary, actual bodily harm, and theft.
Detective Praises Community and Police Response
“This was a particularly nasty crime, where a vulnerable victim was left with hand injuries,” said Detective Sergeant Stuart Reid from Blackpool Targeted Crime Team. “Despite the aggression in their own home, the victims showed exceptional bravery. Our officers acted swiftly to arrest Wrigley and remove him from our streets. Thanks to their professionalism, our community is now safer.”
