Massive Blaze Hits Former Club in Staines

Twelve fire crews battled a fierce fire that erupted just before 5pm on July 4, 2022, at the old Riverside Club on Laleham Road, Staines-upon-Thames. Surrey Fire & Rescue Service led the charge, with backup from Berkshire Fire Service and the London Fire Brigade.

Residents Told to Keep Doors and Windows Shut

Thick smoke poured from the burning building, prompting emergency teams to urge local residents to close all doors and windows. Laleham Road remained shut all night, while police launched a full investigation.

Suspected Arson Under Police Investigation

“We’re assisting our Surrey FRS colleagues with a large fire in Laleham Rd at a former ex-servicemen’s club. We believe the fire was started on purpose, and we are investigating,” a Surrey Police spokesman confirmed.

Authorities warned people to steer clear of the area as they tackle the aftermath.
