Teen Thug Jailed After Kicking Victim and Police Officer in the Head

Violent Spree Rocks Margate

Ethan Broderick-Porter, 19, launched a brutal attack in Margate town centre on January 14, 2022. He kicked a man in his 60s repeatedly in the head and back. Then he punched two other men, leaving them with nasty cuts on their faces.

His violence didn’t stop there. As officers moved to arrest him, Broderick-Porter lashed out and kicked one policeman in the face, causing injuries.

Justice Served at Canterbury Crown Court

Broderick-Porter, from Northdown Road, Cliftonville, was sentenced on June 29, 2022, to 23 months behind bars. He pled guilty to attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault, and assaulting an emergency worker.

His accomplice, 18-year-old Charlie Parker of Victoria Road, Margate, who joined the first attack, was locked up for ten months in a Young Offenders’ Institution.

Random Attacks Spark Outrage

The attacks started when Broderick-Porter dragged the elderly victim to the ground on Queen Street before he and Parker kicked him viciously. They fled but Broderick-Porter returned to strike two more men in the street. The victims were innocent pedestrians going about their day.

Police quickly caught the pair. Parker was identified from CCTV and arrested a week later.

Police Praise and Community Relief

“The motivation for these assaults has not been explained beyond these two offenders’ wishes for violence,” said Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Smith, Thanet District Commander.

“Residents and visitors shouldn’t have to tolerate violent, nuisance teenagers like these two. I’m relieved they’re off our streets.”

“I commend the bravery of officers who arrested Broderick-Porter despite his attack on them,” added the judge. “A swift investigation led to a quick court conclusion.”
